What To Expect In Your First Month On HubPages
69This Hub used to be my First Month Progress Report. But it was all about what I experienced in my first month, so a better title, and the one I changed it to, is "What To Expect In Your First Month On HubPages. Hey, I just gave you your first lesson on titling your Hubs!
My First Milestone
By the time I completed my first six weeks, I had published 18 hubs. It seems that I was acquiring about one follower for each hub I wrote. It was strange how consistent that seemed to be. But later I discovered that followers also came from posting meaningful comments in the forum.
When I completed my 10th hub, I saw that my Hubtivity Milestones listing indicated that fact.
My First HubMob Hub - Now Called "Weekly Topic Inspiration"
HubPages used to have something called HubMob that gave us ideas of things to write about. It's no longer called HubMob. But a similar things still exists. It's now called "Weekly Topic Inspiration." Look for it in the Forum.
Within my first month I saw that the HubMob requested articles on “Men”. Well, I just happened to be writing a book on why men don’t commit to marriage even when they feel they want to settle down. So I took an excerpt of my book and rewrote it for the week’s HubMob entry. Within 48 hours I noticed a tremendous jump in hits on that hub compared to my other hubs. The effort actually even helped me improve that section of my book as I was still working on it before final publication.
The "Weekly Topic Inspiration" is now the latest way to get ideas for subjects to write about, and get more reader traffic in the process. There's a new topic every week and you have the entire week to publish your Hub.
Answering Questions
By the end of my first month I had answered 30 questions. Five of those were hubs I had published by answering questions posted by other Hubbers. I found that by reviewing the questions from time to time gave me ideas for articles. You can find the questions from other Hubbers by clicking on the “Answers” tab. You can answer in two ways. Just by typing in an answer or by creating a hub about the subject. Either method gets linked to the question.
I get many ideas by reviewing questions from time to time. Some Hubbers have some real interesting questions. There is never a dull moment on HubPages.
Comments From Followers
Many of the Hubbers who follow you tend to write a comment as well. I actually decided to “Deny” one of the comments because I noticed that Hubber had followed dozens and dozens of Hubbers within an hour.
The thing that alerted me to that was the nature of her comment. It was spam in nature. When I looked at her profile and followed links to discover her massive “attack,” it actually looked like she was using a bot to accomplish that. So one thing I learned early on is to be cautious with moderating comments from followers. This goes for comments in your hubs too.
This spammer had links to commercial advertising in her profile. She must have been hoping people would click to her profile and follow those links.
Final Remarks
By the end of one month I already got one Hubativity milestone award, discovered how HubPages helps give us ideas to write about various topics, had fun becoming active in the community by answering some questions and even publishing Hubs as detailed answers to some questions, and learned a thing or two about moderating my comments.
I seem to do something almost every day in my life that can benefit other people just as much as they benefit me. So I realize I can write about these things and publish articles for other people to make use of.
I discovered that many Hubbers are very helpful. Both in the forums and by writing helpful Hubs to teach other Hubbers. That is one of the things that motivates me to give something back.
