If you came here looking for the proper way to confirm your own domain for your eBay Partner Network membership, and you are not doing this for HubPages, you may skip this section and see "How To Confirm eBay Partner Network For Your Own Website" below.

≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡

If you have your own site with your own domain, you can sign up for the eBay Partner Network (ePN) directly. You may skip the first part of this information.

HubPages Earnings Program Now Includes eBay

To add eBay capsule to your Hubs on HubPages, you need to sign up for the eBay Partner Network through HubPages.

Any existing ePN members who are using their own ePN affiliate code in HubPages will need to apply for an ePN code issued through HubPages in order to keep earning from your eBay capsules.

Since November 2011 the only way to earn revenue from eBay on HubPages is to sign up for the eBay Program under your HubPages Earnings Program. That is a decision made by eBay so don't blame HP for it.

Presently the HubPages Earning Program includes two programs. The HubPages Ad Program and the eBay Program. You may apply for either program, or both. Amazon will be added to the HubPages Earnings Program soon. In the future other ad programs may be added as well.

How To Activate eBay Under Your HubPages Earnings Program

To apply for eBay, click on the "Earnings" tab in your account. Then click "Settings" in the left column and your will see a page which includes the following. See example image below. Click "get started" and read all the rules. If you agree to all eBay's rules and terms then check off each item and click submit.

It may take up to a week for eBay to approve new applications before HubPages can issue an ePN number.

The eBay Program

Applying for the eBay Program will allow anyone to place eBay Capsules on their Hubs and make money from eBay sales. HubPages pays you by accruing your eBay earnings into your HubPages Earnings Program. Earnings will also be tracked by HubPages and you can check your reports anytime in your Earnings Program reports.

You will have your own account QCV similar to what eBay does in the eBay Partner Network. This quality score will be based on your account activity and is not pooled with other Hubbers.

Terms of use is the same as it is with Amazon capsules. That is, you must have at least 50 words in your text for every eBay product listed. The same 60/40 split also remains the same. Your eBay code will appear in your eBay capsules 60% of the time and HubPages eBay code will appear 40% of the time.

You must not click on your own eBay links and you will not be compensated for any orders placed by you through your own eBay capsules.

If you have more than one HubPages account, you need to apply for eBay under the Earnings Program of each account.

The section below DOES NOT pertain to eBay use on HubPages

How To Confirm eBay Partner Network For Your Own Wesbsite

For HubPages: If you skipped the above section, go back and read it. The rest of this info below is only for those who have their own website.

For Anyone Else: If you came here looking for the proper way to confirm your own domain for your eBay Partner Network membership, then read on...

I wrote this guide based on my own experience when I first registered my eBay Affiliate to allow use with HubPages. Since then eBay made a new rule that one can only use their eBay Partner Network affiliate code on their own domain.

The only way to get approved for eBay's Partner Network (ePN) is with your own site under your own domain. eBay had made these changes to their terms some time ago.

Once you are approved for the eBay Partner Network for your own domain, you can follow these steps to confirm your site domain.

Specifying Your eBay Activation Code (Updated Sept 2011)

In order to verify your website domain, eBay wants you to create a file called "ebaypartnernetworkactivation.txt" in the root directory of your domain. This file must have your eBay Activation Code placed in it, which they give you as explained later.

The purpose of that file is to prove to eBay that you have rights to manipulate the web site, since only the person who has rights to it can place a file in the root directory. Only the WebMaster can do that.

Confirming Your Domain

You need to apply for your eBay Partner Account first. Below I'll explain how to confirm y0our website domain for your eBay Partner Network account. So make sure you get that before continuing.

When you are approved for the eBay Partner Network, log into your account and create a campaign. Call it anything you wish. Later you can create other campaigns for tracking purposes.

Click the "Campaigns" tab as shown in the screen shot at the right (click the image to enlarge it). Under the "Campaigns" tab, click "Create Campaign." Then enter the name you chose in the Campaign field and in the description field. Click "Create" when you are ready.

Now click the "Campaigns" sub tab and you will see that campaign listed. Note the Campaign ID to the left of it. That is your eBay Affiliate Code.

Now follow these steps to specify your domain...

  1. Click the "Account" tab.
  2. Click the "Domains" sub tab.
  3. Next to "Add Domain" enter your domain URL after the "http://" and click "add."
  4. eBay will issue a Campaign ID.

You will also see your Unique Activation Code. That is the code that eBay wants to see in the file you will place in your root directory.

Open Notepad and copy that code (Ctrl-X on Windows, or right-click and select COPY) and paste (Ctrl-Y on Windows, or right-click and select PASTE) that code into Notepad. Save your Notepad into a file called "ebaypartnernetworkactivation.txt" and upload that file to the root directory of your website.

Now go back top your eBay Partner Network account click the "Confirm Domains" button.

eBay will look for the file and read its contents. If it matches your Unique Activation Code, then you will be confirmed.

Check If It's Working

  1. Navigate to the "Reports" tab in your eBay Partner Network account…and click "Run Report" as shown in this screen shot.
  2. Change "Report Type" to report "By Campaign".
  3. Set "Date Range" to anything that includes a period that you know your eBay Capsules were displayed by you in your browser. If you were looking at your own Hub, then it was displayed and should show up in your report.
  4. Wait a day or two for the data to get into the report. Don't expect it to show up in the same day's report.
  5. No need to change the other fields, just click "Run Report"
  6. Does your campaign that you created show up?

If you see activity appearing in your report then you know everything is working. eBay changes their rules and requirements a lot, so it's important to always stay up to date with any new information that they sent you about your account.

If you are a writer and wish to make some residual income with eBay ads included with your writing, you may want to consider signing up for HubPages. It's free and HubPages makes use of eBay even easier. You don't need your own eBay affiliate account to use it under HubPages.

Best of luck to you.

You explained that better than I've seen before. I tried already twice to get Ebay on my hubpages, but they send a long message saying it was rejected. I'll keep trying.

Hi elayne001, thanks for your kind comments. It seems that eBay is not accepting people, at this time, who list HugPages as their website. I had it already prior to this. So my problem was getting them to pass along Hub traffic data. I am sure the issues, as I mentioned in this Hub, are only confusing them even more. A HubPages staff member advised holding off on applying to eBay at this time. You can find her post at http://hubpages.com/forum/post/372144

Wish this hub had been done earlier. I just got the run around from Ebay trying to redo my application with them. And you are correct in that they do not want anything to do with Hubpages which is too bad. If this issue is resolved later I will not be joining Ebay. That were very rude. Actually I think Hubpages needs to pull off the Ebay Partner Network on their affiliate settings page.

mkott, thanks for your feedback on this. eBay reports well for my own site. But nothing is coming thru on their report for the impressions on hubpages. I agree with you, and I hope hubpages adds other affiliates that we can use someday.

Great information! I have it bookmarked for further study later, IF I ever decide to use EBay.

I'm with the others and hope HubPages offers other affiliate opportunities.

Hey Glenn, your answer gives me some consolation and hope.

So I have been submitting activation code and clicking ebay's "confirm domain" button all day long, but the domain remained unconfirmed.

Should I do it at midnight when no hubbers are competing with me? or something else?

Please help!

Glenn Stok profile image

Glenn Stok Hub Author 24 months ago

SaiKit, Are you signed up with the Bay Partner Network? That is a priority before you can confirm the domain. If you have doen that and finding the conformation not working, make sure you follow every step carefully. I doubt doing it at midnight will change anything.

Glenn -- Thanks for the update. The changes eBay is making (which they say will help with the rollout of their EPN mobile service for affiliates) can be difficult to understand and even more difficult to implement. I'm now confident that I can make it through this with relatively few speed bumps.

DB Cooper, You're welcome. I always try to keep my Hubs up to date when changes occur. We have a thread going on this in the "Problem or Suggest a New Feature" Forum that may help to keep an eye on. See the thread on "eBay Affiliate requires reactivation under HP subdomain"
