How To Improve Your Business Website Learning From Writing Online

By

Writing articles online here on HubPages has taught me a few things that can be implemented in your business website.

I’ll explain what you can do to improve your business site, based on what I found works by writing online articles.

When you write quality content on the Internet that offers value to the reader, then you will get quality traffic from search engines.

That traffic is the kind you want, since they have came to you searching for the specific topic that you had written about.

These readers will stick around since they found something that relates to what they want. They'll read what you have to say with interest and they may even check out other pages for more content if they feel they got something of value from you.

By observing what works with attracting readers who are the right match for what we are offering, I have been learning ideas to implement on my business site. If you also have a business with your own website, the following should enlighten you to something new you can do as well.

Applying Lessons From Online Wrting

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Since I had started writing on HubPages I began writing articles for my business site too, informational pages that were not focused on selling. Their purpose is to give the reader something they can use, without asking for anything in return.

I learned to do that by writing on HubPages and seeing what attracts readers. My business site used to be full of product descriptions. I thought I had a professional website. But it was too focused on sales content and not on providing helpful discussions.

So after a thorough review using the lessons I had learned from HubPages, I changed the whole concept to improve my site, and it paid off.

I wrote quality articles as discussions that provided value to the reader about the business I specialize in. I found that works well.

The Real Reason For Writing Articles On Your Business Site

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The idea behind writing quality articles on your business site is to bring in the traffic, just as you do on HubPages.

Since I started doing that, I can say that it had positive results with sales of my products. As it turns out, the informational pages help bring search engine traffic.

When people do a search related to your product, Google will put more value on web pages that give the reader something of value. If all you have are pages full of advertising or sales-focused product descriptions, then you are falling into the vast sea of all the other e-commerce sites that are selling things on the Internet.

But if you have pages with useful articles, Google will eventually send more and more traffic your way. It takes time for that to build up. They rank those pages based on how long people stay to read.

They also rank based on how long they stay within your site. If a reader feels they got something of value, they may be encouraged to look around your site some more. If they don’t find value, they leave.

Google can tell that they didn't bounce out, but rather followed a link to another page on your site. And that adds value too. If all your visitor sees at first is something that is focused on a sales pitch, then will leave pretty quickly. That short duration looks bad for you and your search engine ranking will suffer for it.

When you have value with useful articles, even if they don't buy from you that day, they may come back for more answers to their questions. Eventually, one day, they may discover something you're selling, something they want.

That's the magic behind it. You get repeat visitors. Google keeps track of repeat visitors too. And it looks good for you, and your search ranking.

Reworking Non-working Pages

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It's also important to pay attention to what works and what doesn't.

If you aren’t using Google Analytics on your site, you should. I use it on HubPages and on my business site, and the information I get from the reports is incredible.

You can get a lot of useful data about how well your Hubs are working and why. This kind of information is important to have on your business site too.

When you review the results of the reports, you can find areas that need to be reworked in some way. I like to compare non-working Hubs by comparing them to the ones that are working. Then I see what is missing, or what I did right.

Learning how well that worked on HubPages, I started doing the same analysis on my business site too.

Applying Google Analytics to your business site gives you information that shows what pages are working and which are not. So you can review poor-working pages and improve them.

Poor performing pages may not necessarily be poorly written. They may just be attracting the wrong traffic. Your Google Analytics reports help discover how misguided visitors have fallen on your page. Then you’ll know what changes to make to bring quality traffic. A quality visitor is one who found exactly what they were searching for.

It seems that Google notices when pages are updated and those pages get a higher ranking for being maintained rather than being left static.

Bottom line...

If you have a business site, take what you learn here on HubPages and apply it to your business site to improve the ranking and success of your business too.

You’ll do better in two ways, attracting more quality traffic, and selling more of your own products.

Pretending I was a newcomer to my site, I discovered that unless I give the punter an indication as to where to go next from say, the home page, I would have to strategically put inviting link/s to other pages on my site or they might bounce off. So I made sure that every page has some internal links to read more on my site elsewhere. The idea being to keep arousing their interest in the rest of my site to keep them there for longer so hopefully they'll like it, bookmark and return frequently. Does that make any sense?

Nothing more effective than a busy comments section though.

jenubouka ~ Thanks for visiting and for your feedback.

Sue Adams ~ Good to see you around. Yes, you said that very well. That's exactly what I do on my own site to keep them moving around the site. And I try to do that with my Hubs too, where it makes sense. Thanks for stopping by.
