I love writing. I have all of this stuff inside of me that I want to share. And the best way to do it is to write, just as I am about to do with this inspirational story about writing.

When I talk with friends, I find myself coming up with brilliant ideas, if I do say do myself (Hey, I’m just trying to make appoint here).

When I’m out in a social setting, it’s not an environment where I can stop and write down what I just said. And before I know it, I end up forgetting what came out of my head while talking with people.

How often have you found yourself coming up with great ideas for an article you can write, just by talking at a party or over dinner with friends?

It’s amazing how often I try to recreate something I said at length in a discussion, only to remember little parts of the conversation and vague ideas of the depth of the discussion. Does that happen to you too?

I’ve tried to recompose thoughts that I had expressed earlier in the day when I come home and sit at the computer. But it’s not the same. The flow of the conversation is gone and I don’t find it in me to bring out what I had said while involved in the discussion.

Oh well, I guess I could carry around a recorder and transcribe the stuff later. But then I have to consider peoples privacy and offer to let them opt out of a recorded conversation. These things just don’t work.

What I have found, is that when I am alone at the computer, as I am right now, I am free to let my thoughts flow and whatever comes out, there it is, and I’m typing it right in so that it never ever will be lost again.

I don’t let my brain get interrupted with proper construction. My fingers can’t keep up with my brain. So my typing is a disgrace when I have a lot on my mind and I’m spilling it all onto the hard drive of my computer. So I just let it all happen with run-on sentences, dyslexic-spelled words, and fragmented sentences.

I clean it up later. The main idea is that my thoughts get set in stone. NO, that’s not right. They get set in silicone. We’re in the computer age after all.

We have all the time in the world to clean up the grammar, the spelling and even the thoughts. And that is important to be done before publishing. I'm free to use all my thoughts at will. When I want and how I want. I have them saved and readily available, even with my bad memory of what I said yesterday.

As I proofread I discover that I said something about a subject that may not be clear to the reader. So I include an explanation before the complex part. I often switch paragraphs around to make the logic more orderly. This only becomes clear with proofreading.

I have dozens of files of partial articles that I wrote just to preserve my thoughts for later use. Sometimes when I feel a block of writers, or better known as writer’s block, I can turn to my files and find something that I composed from a prior inspiration. Yes, some can be silly. Some will never be used. Sometimes I just leave it in and see how my readers respond.

With all the files of partially written thoughts from conversations I’ve had, I have something to elaborate on and many times it turns into something completely different than what it started out as. The end result of my efforts is always to let it become educational for my readers. And yet, it becomes another article. And this one’s done.

This is so very true to me .When reading this I find myself between the lines ,saying yes , this I have done and still do . I think like that too . Or even better yet ,this is so me too..

It must be something built in ,because there is never a shut off button with me . I wake up within seconds at times , I find myself trying to write something that I subconsciously was thinking of . Maybe that is why I don't sleep much . :)

I agree that you should let yourself write, and then go back and edit later. The flow is better, and you don't lose important bits of info.

Great story on writing. I have been plagued with an unruly brain forever, sometimes blocking my writing efforts. Often it's best to go off into the neighborhoood, the park, or wherever that will let your mind clear and recharge.

I love writing this way. When I go back, some of my writing is kind of garbage-y, but most of it has turned out good to great with few I being gems- am very proud of them.

I doubt those gems would have crystallized if I hadn't free-flowed my thoughts.

Writing is an outlet to all thoughts and feelings. Once you get started it comes out in the form of words. Yes, writing is a wonderful process. Voted Up

This was great.... I write the same way a lot of times. I also try to keep my Blackberry with me and jot down any ideas I come up with for articles or blog posts using the "notepad" feature. Like you said though, that's not always convenient if you're visiting with friends or family...

I am also taking doodles or writing random thoughts from time to time. Unfortunately, my silicone friend (my laptop computer) crashed that I had to let it be repaired in order to retrieve those ideas.

Thanks for sharing this, Sir Glen.

Glenn:

Another good hub as all of your articles usually are. Voted this one up and useful as well. It's amazing how our brains can send messages to our fingers, to type out meaningful words of what we want to convey to our readers isn't it? You could say that each and everyone of us, who writes for hubpages or other writing platforms, are like artists. However unlike artists which draw, or paint pictures on paper. We writers are in a sense literary artists, taking pictures from within the subconscious and transferring, or painting a story for our readers to enjoy. Thanks again for this stimulating read-it's right up a writers own alley!

Oh I needed this so much! I have experienced this so many times that an interesting topic comes up and I find myself automatically constructing sentences and tell myself that I will write it later as if leaving the discussion would just blow the air out of the whole script.

But when I get down to writing it, it just doesn't seem the same anymore. Once I tried recording my ideas and thoughts, but even that is not the same. I guess the moment of inspiration is like a short window of ... time-travel maybe ... that if you don't utilize it immediately the chance is gone.

The idea of jotting down small points of the whole concept sounds great and I think I ought to try that. I have a feeling this will turn out much better than recording myself.

PS: I am a pathetic singer :)

Great hub and a vote up. Like you, my fingers cannot keep up with my brain when I write. I have to do what I call free writing to get my all my thoughts and ideas out, no matter how they may land on the page. Then I go back and clean it up. Also, when I am in social situations I cannot wait to get home and write for fear I may lose material. Thanks for sharing.
